Scholarships
Community Action, Inc. (CAI) is pleased to offer three
Scholarships annually, each in the amount of $1000 to residents who meet the
scholarship criteria. The scholarships are in three categories: Post Secondary,
High School Graduate/Graduating Senior and GED Recipients.
The Scholarships are named after Gerald Goldman
(pictured right), the
Executive Director of Community Action, who passed away in
1995. Community Action presents these scholarships in his honor.
Students who reside in Haverhill, Amesbury, Newbury,
Salisbury, Groveland, Georgetown, Boxford, Rowley, Newbury, West Newbury, and
Merrimac are eligible. There are no income eligibility
requirements.
Applicants must supply proof of their enrollment in a
full-time college program and/or demonstrate in writing their acceptance in a
college program. GED applicants must have received a General Education Diploma
and show acceptance into a college program.
In addition, applicants must provide a letter of
recommendation from a teacher or professor, and complete a 200 – 500 word essay.
Essays should demonstrate how education will further the principles of Gerald
Goldman in their own lives, or how continued education will make a difference in
their communities.
The final selection of the scholarship recipients is made by
the Goldman Family and announced in early spring with award presentation in
mid-summer.
