Breastfeeding

Northern Essex Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program of Community Action, Inc.

Anna Jaques Hospital Birth Center-Offers a variety of special activities and support services for mothers. Weekly Breastfeeding Support Group in Haverhill. Contact the Center at (978) 463-1060.

Child Care
Child Care Circuit- Provides information, referral, education, training and technical assistance to parents, child care providers, employers and community groups. Contact (800) 660-2868.

Community Action - Family Day Care Program The Family Day Care Program is a network of licensed family day care homes. The program provides comprehensive childcare for children from ages 6 weeks to 9 years. The family day care provider offers a rich variety of age-appropriate materials and experiences to attract the special interests of each child. The day care home is designed to create an atmosphere that encourages self-confidence, independence and intellectual curiosity. All children are enrolled in the USDA Childcare Food Program, which ensures nutritious meals and supplements during the day. Contact Community Action at (978) 373-1971.

Community Partnerships for Children (Early Childhood Information Center)
provides information, referrals, parent trainings, provider trainings and subsidized child care for working families with children ages 3 and 4 years of age.  For more information, please call Mary Guerin at (978) 469-8794.

Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) - provides a wide range of information and referrals for families, child care providers, child care consultants and businesses. Also provides tips and suggestions for parents searching for child care.

Advocacy

Family Voices - A national grassroots network of families and friends advocating for children with special health care needs.

The Federation for Children with Special Needs -Provides information, referral and training on parent issues in health and special education.

Health Care for All - Coalition of health care consumers and advocates working to ensure that no one is without health care. Contact (617) 350-0974.

MA Office On Disabilities - Information and referrals services regarding advocacy for people with disabilities.

PAL: The Parent/Professional Advocacy League - Statewide network of families, professionals and family support groups advocating on behalf of children and adolescents with special needs.

Family TIES of Massachusetts - An information and support network run by and for parents of children with special needs. (617) 727-7908.

Family Village - integrates information, resources, and communication opportunities on the Internet for persons with mental retardation and other disabilities. Also maintains a library of information on various developmental delays and disabilities.

National Father's Network - non-profit organization dedicated to providing support and resources for fathers and families of children with special needs

Services
The Pentucket Area Early Intervention Program - Provides services for infants and toddlers (birth to age 3) who are at risk for, or have developmental delays. Services provided include, developmental screenings, home visits, toddler groups, parent-child groups, parent support groups, parent training and education, group and individual sessions and referral services. Early Intervention is a program sponsored by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and all services are provided at no direct cost to the family. Contact (978) 363-5553.

Department of Education - Provides information and referrals on Chapter 766 regulations, parents' rights, eligibility and how to access services for children with special needs.

Department of Mental Health - The primary mission of the Department of Mental Health (DMH) is to provide services to citizens with long-term or serious mental illness, early and ongoing treatment for mental illness, and research into the causes of mental illness. The Department of Mental Health also provides emergency, evaluation/assessment and short-term treatment for any child, adolescent or adult experiencing an acute mental health crisis who requests assistance.

Department of Mental Retardation - Provides services to people of all ages with mental retardation and to children with developmental disabilities and their families.

Department of Public Health - Mission is to promote the conditions that improve and protect the health of Massachusetts residents including infants and children with special needs.

Executive Office of Health and Human Services - Executive Office of Health and Human Services. EOHHS is the state agency responsible for planning, managing and coordinating the Commonwealth's health and human service system.
