The Adult Learning Center
Offers free morning classes to adults 16 + in need of literacy skills, and GED preparation.

Free morning and evening English For Speakers of Other Languages are available for people seeking to improve their English language skills. All classes include instruction in oral, reading and writing skills. Beginner, intermediate and advanced classes are available. Participants should be at least 16 years of age.

In addition to ABE/GED and ESOL classes the E & T programs include Certified Nurse Aide training and Pre-School Assistant Teacher Preparation Programs. Adult Basic Education/GED Preparation

Classes for beginning readers through GED preparation.  Morning classes are available free of charge to residents of Greater Haverhill Community. Classes are held Monday – Thursday 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM.  Fast math classes for additional support and computer literacy classes available on limited basis to enrolled students.
Cap and gown graduation for all who successfully complete GED requirements.

English for Speakers of Other Languages(ESOL)
Free morning and evening classes for people 16 + who want to learn to speak English or improve reading and writing skills.  Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced classes are available.

Office hours for the Adult Education Programs are Monday – Thursdays 8:30 AM– 2:30 PM

Pre-School Assistant Teacher Preparation Program (PPP)
Monday – Friday 8:30 – 2:30

Out of School Youth Program prepares young people between the ages of 17 ½ and 21 for entry level assistant teacher positions in Early Childhood Learning Centers.

GED prep, academic improvement, computer literacy, life skills training, CPR and first aid certification, 10 hour CEU workshop, Center tours, job shadows, internships and 3 college credits and assisted job search are major components of program.  Students must meet age, income and academic guidelines.

  • ABE/ESOL Classes allow participants to gain skills that will assist them in their roles as community members, employees, and family members.
  • Classes are open entry, open exit with students learning at their own pace. 
  • ABE/ESOL Classes integrate technology into the curriculum and teachers encourage student success through individualized attention and creative lesson planning.
  • The Adult Learning Center of Greater Haverhill in conjunction with the Haverhill Partners for Literacy holds graduation ceremonies every year with as many as 35 graduates per year.
  • Participants are encouraged to enter higher level education and training programs.
