Community Action, Inc. is a private non-profit organization established in 1965 to address the causes and consequences of poverty in the Greater Haverhill, Amesbury and Newburyport areas. We currently employ approximately 140 employees (both full-time and part-time) throughout our service area. We have an outstanding benefit package and it is available to eligible employees.

HEAD START
Teacher Assistant:

Seeking an individual who has experience working with young children ages 3 and 4. School year position 8:30 to 2:30. Must have reliable transportation. Monthly night meetings and home visits. Salary commensurate with education and experience.

Bi-lingual Combo Teacher Assistant: Seeking an individual fluent in both Spanish and English to provide classroom assistance and routine home visiting. School year position, 35 hours per week. Monthly night meetings and reliable transportation required. Salary commensurate with education and experience.

Assistant Cook: Anticipated opening in June. Summer hours 25; school year 35. Applicant must have experience working in an industrial kitchen. Must have or be willing to be Serve Safe certified. Must have reliable transportation.

Current CAI Volunteer Opportunities

WIC
The Haverhill WIC office is looking for a part-time (8-16 hours per week) volunteer.
We are looking for volunteers to perform routine office work:

  • Answer the telephone, schedule appointments and make reminder phone calls
  • Help to prepare notification letters and other mailings sent to participants & applicants
  • File charts
  • Copy documents
  • Greet participants and help through the WIC appointment
  • Read to children or conduct other activities while their parents are occupied

Qualifications:

  • Ability to read, write and speak English
  • Ability to establish rapport with others
  • Ability to work well with individuals or as a team member
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment
  • Enjoys working with families and children in need of WIC assistance
  • Sensitive to cultural diversity and other differences
  • Willingness to be trained and apply skills and knowledge accordingly

WIC provides nutrition education and counseling, free nutritious food and referrals to health care and other services to low to moderate-income families with children under the age of five.
