Community Services

Greater Haverhill | Greater Amesbury | Drop-in Center Haverhill

CAI Community Services works with clients to solve problems and access resources to help the client and the client's family become self-sufficient. Assistance is also provided to low-income families with budget planning and landlord/tenant concerns.

The Haverhill office provides support programs for residents of Haverhill, Boxford, Groveland, and Georgetown.

Housing Services
CAI Housing Services assists tenants with advocacy and information regarding rights and responsibilities. Clients request assistance in working with utility companies to maintain services. Housing Services refers clients to relevant services provided by Community Action and other agencies. Housing Services responds to emergency needs providing food, clothing, and other necessities.

Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP)
In 2006, Community Action – Greater Haverhill office received $21,000 in funds for Rent/Mortgage and Utility Assistance in Emergency Food and Shelter Program Funds (EFSP/FEMA).

EFSP funds provide clients an opportunity to meet an immediate need concerning safe housing. There are many reasons residents face eviction, homelessness, or loss of utility services. A prospective recipient of EFSP funds must demonstrate the ability to meet living expenses on her or his own following EFSP assistance. The EFSP funds allow Community Services staff to assist local residents in need.

Gazette Santa Program
Each December over 200 Haverhill households receive vouchers for gifts and food worth approximately $13,000 from the Gazette Santa Fund, sponsored by the Haverhill Gazette.

Coats for Kids Project
From November through February, Community Action participates in the MASSCAP/Anton Cleaners’ Initiative. CAI Housing Services distributed over 1500 winter coats to adults and children through this outreach during the 2005/2006 Winter season.
