CAI participates in the IRS sponsored VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) Program which offers free tax help to low-to moderate-income people (generally, $49,000 and below) . IRS certified volunteers receive training to help prepare basic and intermediate tax returns for those unable to do so themselves.
CAI's VITA site is located at 145 Essex Street in Haverhill. Free tax preparation, for those who qualify, is available starting in January extending through mid April. Massachusetts tax returns are prepared simultaneously. Returns are reviewed by a qualified coordinator and electronically filed.
