Community Services Amesbury

CAI Community Services works with clients to solve problems and access resources to help the client and the client's family become self-sufficient. Assistance is also provided to low-income families with budget planning and landlord/tenant concerns.

Through an interview process client eligibility is determined. Each program has specific requirements for eligibility and is subject to funding and resource availability. Contact the Amesbury office for more information.

The Amesbury office provides support programs for residents of Amesbury, Merrimac, Newburyport, Newbury, West Newbury, Rowley, and Salisbury.

Food Pantry
Donations to our food pantry are provided by local churches, the Boy Scouts, the Lion's Club, and local residents, an annual U. S. Postal Service drive, and a yearly Project Bread grant. Residents of Amesbury and Merrimac are eligible to use the food pantry; residents of other towns may use the pantry on an emergency basis.

Clothing Bank
The Amesbury office provides a clothing bank through the generous donations of local residents.

Women, Infants and Children (WIC)
The Northern Essex WIC program has office hours in Amesbury.

Heating Assistance
The Heating Assistance program has office hours in Amesbury.

Homeless Aid
Through the generosity of local churches, organizations, and private donations, a limited amount of funds are available for Amesbury and Merrimac residents who are in danger of becoming homeless or are facing a utility shutoff. Occasionally funds are available to residents of towns other than Amesbury and Merrimac.

Emergency Rent & Utility
In 2006 $13,380 worth of EFSP/FEMA funds provided clients an opportunity to meet an immediate need concerning safe housing. There are many reasons residents face eviction, homelessness, or loss of utility services. A prospective recipient of EFSP funds must demonstrate the ability to meet living expenses on her or his own following EFSP assistance. The EFSP funds allow Community Services staff to assist local residents in need.
